Mr. Insect

Alejandro Ramírez (Mr. Insect) is a mexican music composer, sound designer, and music technologist who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Composition and a Master’s degree in Music Technology from the Faculty of Music at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He has complemented his academic background with studies in electronic music production, synthesis, programming, sound design, mixing, and music composition for film and audiovisual media.

His work moves across multiple sonic worlds, integrating elements and techniques from diverse musical and sound languages — including improvisation and algorithmic programming — resulting in works with a distinct and unique identity.

Since 2015, he has collaborated on feature and short films of various kinds, contributing as a production sound mixer, sound designer, mixer, and composer of original music.

In 2017, using Unity and FMOD, he worked as developer, music composer, and sound designer for the video game Codex Mamba, produced by Black Mamba Films and available for macOS and Windows. He is currently working on the sound design and original music for El Torpe, produced by Energy Games, available in beta version for Android.

In the field of live electronic improvisation, he has collaborated since 2018 with the experimental flamenco company InterFlamenca and dancer Ricardo Rubio, creating live music and sound effects for various stage works.

He has also composed concert pieces for different ensembles — including string orchestra, wind quintet, septet, solo piano, and acousmatic formats — which have been performed in venues such as the Faculty of Music (UNAM), Casa de las Humanidades (UNAM), Escuela Superior de Música, Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana, Centro Cultural Coyoacanense Hugo Argüelles, and the José Luis Cuevas Museum.

Since 2022, Ramírez has developed a creative approach centered on soundscape composition, integrating field recordings into his electronic works. This exploration culminates in his master’s project Río sonoro, an immersive and improvisatory piece that combines soundscape recordings, a SuperCollider algorithm, and ambisonic technology.
